A boiler lasts about fifteen years on average. But when is repairing no longer sensible and is replacing the better option? You can recognise it by the following six signs.
1. Your boiler is older than 15 years
As a boiler ages, efficiency drops and the risk of breakdowns rises. A modern high-efficiency boiler is considerably more economical and reliable.
2. Increasingly frequent breakdowns
Do you have to call the engineer regularly? Those repair costs add up. Replacing is then often cheaper in the long run.
3. A higher energy bill
A declining efficiency shows up on your gas bill. A new, economical boiler partly pays for itself through lower gas use.
4. Poor heating or fluctuating hot water
Do radiators no longer get properly warm or does the temperature of your hot water fluctuate? Then the boiler is no longer performing as it should.
5. Strange noises or an unsteady flame
Ticking, banging or an irregular flame point to wear or dirt. Sometimes maintenance is enough, but with an older boiler replacing is wiser.
6. Parts are no longer available
For outdated boilers, parts are sometimes no longer available. A repair is then no longer an option.
